What Your Hands Reveal

“A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”

Proverbs 11:25

Proverbs 11 opens with a picture from the marketplace: dishonest scales versus accurate weights. It sounds like a small, technical matter, but Solomon says God detests one and delights in the other. Why? Because how we measure, weigh, and deal with others in the smallest transactions reveals the true condition of our heart. Integrity isn't reserved for the big moments; it's proven in the ordinary ones nobody's checking. The chapter moves quickly from commerce to character: pride leads to disgrace, but humility carries wisdom with it. There's something freeing here — you don't have to defend, inflate, or protect an image. Integrity, Solomon says, actually guides you; it does the navigating so you don't have to constantly manage a false front. Then comes one of the most countercultural ideas in all of Proverbs: “One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.” It defies our instinct to grip tightly to what we have. Solomon insists that generosity isn't loss — it's the pathway to being refreshed ourselves. Whoever waters others will be watered. And the chapter closes with a warning about where we place our trust: riches will fail us, but righteousness — a life aligned with God — thrives like a green leaf even in dry seasons. Sister, check your scales today. Are you dealing honestly, holding loosely, and trusting in something sturdier than your bank balance?
